Songfacts®:

  • Here, SZA sings about how there is much more a true loving relationship than sex, citing Forrest Gump as an example

    Ain't talkin' about pu--y
Meaning you deserve the whole box of chocolates
    Come at me
Forrest Gump had a lot goin' for him
    Never without pussy
Y'know, Jenny almost gave it all up for him
Never even pushed for the pussy
Where's Forrest now when you need him?

The 1994 movie Forrest Gump tells the story of a slow-witted but tender man. In one scene, Forrest reunites with his childhood friend Jenny Curran, and proposes to her. She declines—but is temporarily captivated by his kindness and makes love to him, even though he'd not been looking for sex. SZA uses Forrest's famous quote, "Life is like a box of chocolates" to represent everything she has to offer as a romantic partner.
  • This track features SZA's TDE labelmate Kendrick Lamar, who spits the second verse. The pair previously collaborated on SZA's "Babylon" from 2014's Z. and Lamar's "untitled 04 | 08.14.2014."
  • During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, SZA noted that both she and Kendrick address the role of sex in a relationship throughout the song. SZA added that the track is "dedicated to vaginas." Indeed, the word "pussy" is used 28 times, eight by SZA and 20 by Kendrick.
  • The song is produced by frequent Chance The Rapper collaborator Cam O'bi, marking his first time working with SZA.
  • This samples Redman's 2001 track "Let's Get Dirty (In the Club)" which was previously flipped by Christina Aguilera into her 2002 hit "Dirrty."
