Songfacts®:

  • Here, Big Bang's Taeyang teams up with BTS' Jimin for a song about two people sharing a romantic connection. The lyrics are a mixture of Korean and English.
  • Taeyang starts off this song by describing his love interest's attractive aura.

    (Translated into English)
Girl, you gotta know you got that vibe
    Your smile is fine art
    You wake up my soul
You got me feelin' so right

On the chorus, Taeyang describes the chemistry that he and his girlfriend share.

You know we got that vibe, baby. 'Til the sun rises
Look at me, look at me, I got the vibe

Jimin joins in on the second verse. He too is experiencing good vibrations with his sweetheart.

Can feel my sixth sense, it's a stimulation
    Holding hands causing an electrocution
Before you my world was in disconnection
  • When Taeyang wrote the song with lyricist Vince and producers Teddy Park, Kush and 24, they knew they would theme it around the word "Vibe."

"I thought deeply about what the word means," Taeyang told Rolling Stone. "In Korea, the word 'vibe' became popular and trendy through programs like Show Me the Money, but aside from that, I felt a deep connection with the word's meaning. A good vibe could be the energy or inspiration you get from an object of love, or it could come as harmony between two loves, rather than from solitude. I was thinking of what it could mean and that's how a lot of the lyrics came out."
  • The collaboration was birthed in early 2021 when Teddy Park watched Taeyang working. At that time, the members of BTS weren't involved in many solo activities. When Park suggested a hookup with Jimin, the idea stayed with Taeyang.

In the summer of 2022, Taeyang met up with the BTS members at various private gatherings and events. During a meal with Jimin, Taeyang suggested, "There's some music we've put together, do you have interest in working together?"

Jimin said he'd love to. After that, he visited the studio, Taeyang and his producers played the music for him, and he chose this song to jump on. In an interview with NME, Taeyang described the collaboration as "very seamless."
  • The two K-Pop stars released the R&B-pop song on January 13, 2023. It marks Taeyang's first new solo music since his third solo album, 2017's White Night, after which he headed off to complete mandatory military service in South Korea. Since then, he's left YG Entertainment and joined its associate company, The Black Label.

It's also Jimin's first official solo release since BTS' June 14, 2022 announcement of a hiatus to allow the group's singers to pursue individual projects.
  • "Vibe" debuted at #76 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Jimin the seventh and last member of BTS to score a solo entry on the chart. For Taeyang, it was his first visit to the Hot 100 either solo or as a member of Big Bang.
