Songfacts®:

  • Tanita Tikaram was born in Munster, West Germany, the daughter of a Malaysian mother, Fatimah Rohani, and an Indo-Fijian father, Pramod Tikaram. Her father's military career meant that she spent her childhood in Germany before moving to the town of Basingstoke, in southern England in 1982. When the teenage singer found herself thrust into the spotlight following the success of her debut album, Ancient Heart, her mother, whom she remained very close to, became the calming influence in her life. This song finds Tanita paying tribute to her.
