Songfacts®:

  • This is one of several songs on Everybody's Angel where Tikaram is accompanied by Jennifer Warnes. The American singer was well known at the times for her work with Leonard Cohen, including her album Famous Blue Raincoat, which contained her interpretations of some of the Canadian singer-songwriter's songs. Tikaram told us that she felt Warnes, "works very well with a darker, deeper voice," such as her own. "Her voice is very expressive, " she continued, "but it's also quite angelic, but not in the way that's annoying. It's a really expressive voice. But it complements very well this kind of dark voice. That's what attracted me to her. And also, I loved that album Famous Blue Raincoat. I just thought it was a brilliant way to interpret his songs." (Here's our full Tanita Tikaram interview.)
