Songfacts®:

  • Tate McRae and Kid Laroi (real name Charlton Howard) began dating in early 2024 with both artists supporting each other's careers and making appearances together at various events. This song is a heartfelt tribute to their connection, as McRae details how their romance has allowed her to truly "know love."
  • The collaboration with Kid Laroi came about in a really organic way. McRae was looking for a feature for one of her tracks, and Laroi, a fan of her previous work, offered to track a verse for it. The first take, however, wasn't quite it. A bit of introspection, and the pair started fresh, crafting a new piece together. That song became "I Know Love."
  • This was the first time Tate McRae and Kid Laroi worked together. McRae admits that when she and Laroi recorded their parts, they were both nervous to sing in front of each other. Despite being playful and always joking around, stepping into the studio together created a totally different dynamic - one where they had to take each other seriously as artists.

"You know when you're in a relationship and you sing around each other, but you don't really, like, sing?" she laughed during a Spotify listening party. "So it was a little stressful being in the studio singing and writing in front of him, but it was a cool experience to watch him in his process."
  • Tate McRae and Kid Laroi wrote the song with Julia Michaels, Billy Walsh and the track's producers, Ryan Tedder and Tyler Spry.

Julia Michaels has collaborated with Tate McRae on several songs, including "Sports Car" and "Revolving Door."

Ryan Tedder has worked extensively with McRae since her 2023 album Think Later.

Songwriter and producer Tyler Spry frequently works with Tedder. Their other collaborations include "I Ain't Worried" for his group OneRepublic and "Exes" for McRae's Think Later album.

Billy Walsh has co-written several songs for The Kid Laroi, including "Without You" and "Thousand Miles."
