Songfacts®:

  • Hicks explained to Birmingham News: "It's kind of like my version of 'Born In The U.S.A..' I think the message is clear; the distance between us and the world is closer than we think."
  • Producer Simon Climie, who's worked with Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana and Michael McDonald, played guitar on this song. Hicks told the Birmingham News that he was grateful for Climie's contributions to the album: "We did a lot of pre-production in the south of France, where his home is Simon knows about the voice; he knows soul singers. He knows players who could get the point across. We had a vision for each of these songs, and a really good working relationship. I wanted a very earthy, organic sound. He understood where I came from."
  • Hicks co-wrote this with Gary Nicholson and Kenny Greenberg, who are both Nashville songwriters with a strong blues influence.
