Songfacts®:

  • Sparks fly on this edgy Taylor Swift song about her desire for her lover.

And all our pieces fall (pieces fall)
    Right into place
Get caught up in a moment (caught up, caught up)
    Lipstick on your face
    So it goes (goes)

It is likely that Taylor is singing about the same lover as on "Delicate" as both tunes reference meeting someone in a bar.

    Met you in a bar
All eyes on me, your illusionist
  • This is not the first time that Swift has also used the line "So It Goes." She previously utilised the phrase on two 1989 tracks:

"Style" ("So it goes, he can't keep his wild eyes on the road.")

"You Are In Love" ("So it goes, you two are dancing in a snow globe round and round.")
  • Taylor Swift wrote the song with frequent collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, plus Oscar Görres, who is a part of Max Martin's production team, Wolf Cousins. Görres' other credits include Cher Lloyd's "I Wish," Tori Kelly's "Unbreakable Smile" and DNCE's "Be Mean."
