• Born in Ontario, Canada, Tebey is a country singer and multi-genre songwriter. He co-wrote pop tunes for Pixie Lott ("All About Tonight"), One Direction ("They Don't Know About Us"), and Cher ("Take It Like a Man"), along with hits for country singers Josh Moore ("Somebody Else Will") and Gord Bamford ("Dive Bar").
• In this country-pop track, Tebey wants to go to "blue jean heaven" with his girl after she walks in wearing a pair of tight jeans. It was released as the lead single to his second EP, Love A Girl, but it almost didn't get written because Tebey had reservations about the content.
  
  "I just didn't think we could make the 'idea' into a hit," he admitted in a 2022 Songfacts interview. "It seemed a little cheesy to me. As a songwriter you never know what is going to connect with the listener. All you can do is write the best song you can at the time and pray people like it."
• Tebey wrote the tune with Nashville songwriter Nathan Spicer and fellow Canadian scribe Kelly Archer. Spicer came up with the keyboard synth intro, which reminded Tebey of a Katy Perry song and made him excited to keep working on the track. Archer already had the title "Denim On Denim," so they fleshed out the blue jean-themed romance.
• Tebey compliments his girl by saying she's "Mel McDaniels [sic] approved." McDaniel was a country singer who notched a #1 hit on the Country chart with "Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On" - a similar tune about a woman decked out in denim - in 1985. Tebey credits his co-writer Kelly Archer for coming up with the reference.
• This was Tebey's second Top 10 hit on the Canadian Country chart. It was also certified Platinum by Music Canada for 80,000 copies sold.
• The music video follows a young couple's journey on a road trip through New Mexico and Texas, where they finally end up at a George Strait concert. The clip was helmed by Canadian director Emma Higgins, who also directed videos for Tegan & Sara ("I Know I'm Not The Only One") and Jesse Reyez ("No One's In The Room").
• Tebey released Love A Girl after a year-long hiatus to deal with the depression and anxiety that nearly made him quit the music business. In his Songfacts interview, he shared advice for aspiring musicians struggling with similar issues.
  
  "The music business can be very debilitating for those who struggle with mental health issues. The extreme highs and lows are just part of the industry, and it affects some more than others. I know very successful songwriters who struggle tremendously with depression, myself included," he shared.
  
  "It's important to know that you really aren't alone. It's an all-too-common theme amongst creative people. As hard as it may seem, don't be afraid to confide in your fellow creatives, 'cause there's a good chance they can relate to your struggle. But I will say this: If you're a songwriter, or musician, you probably pursued a career in music because making music is fun. Never lose sight of that, 'cause depression doesn't like 'fun.'"
