  • Ted Nugent was part of the fecund Detroit rock scene of the late '60s and early '70s that included Bob Seger, The MC5, and Suzi Quatro. Many of these acts fell off due to overindulgence, but Nugent stayed clean, and along with Seger and Quatro, was still rocking out decades later.

This song is a celebration of his hometown, where he made his mark and drew on the many musical influences that were in the air. In addition to the many rock acts that were cropping up, Detroit was also home to Motown Records, which immersed him in blues and soul.
  • Nugent credits his longtime musical associates for making it possible to rock out at 73 years old, his age when the Detroit Muscle album was released. They include bass player Greg Smith, drummer Jason Hartless, producer Michael Lutz, and engineers Tim and Andy Patalan. "The six of us represent what I have always experienced in my musical life, and that is a gift beyond measure," he told Songfacts. "These guys live and breathe everything from James Brown to Wilson Pickett, Motown's Funk Brothers, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and Little Richard. There's not a B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert King lick they don't know. We jump spontaneously into these jams, and I think that spontaneity factor is accelerated by their musical dedications and forces. But yeah, we're not running out of anything. This is as intense as a bunch of horny kids with their first amplifier in a garage. I'm very lucky to have that energy."
  • Nugent, who knows his way around video production thanks to his long-running show Ted Nugent Spirit Of The Wild on the Outdoor Channel, made a video for this song using memorable photos from throughout his career, including one where he's riding a buffalo on stage.
