  • Sara watched a lot of movies whilst writing for Hearthrob, and found herself influenced by their soundtracks, especially the music used for the 2011 crime drama film Drive. Tegan told the Toronto Sun: "She talked a lot about how film was really influencing her, how music is used in film to exaggerate certain emotional moments. I had challenged her to write more songs like (2007 single) 'Back In Your Head.' Like, 'Write a f---ing pop song, already! Carry your g-ddamn weight in this band, write another hit!' She wrote 'Shock To Your System' from the perspective of you telling her to get it together about love or life."
