  • Matty Healy claims that he can distinguish the girl he is addressing on this song from everybody else by the sound of her beating heart. We know he is not telling the truth as in reality hearts don't have individual beats. The song is filled with other jibes and deceit: Healy goes to claim that he was lying when he told this female that he loved her.
  • This was one of five new songs that The 1975 performed when they began their UK tour in Liverpool on November 9, 2015. The other tunes that they debuted were "Love Me", "A Change of Heart", "She's American" and "Somebody Else."
  • The song's critic-trolling video finds the band performing in a glass cube as insulting comments flash up on pink screens. "That was more just referencing the culture that surrounds our band and that divisive conversation," Healy explained to NME. "I've not been on some kind of redemption. I'm not about to rise from the ashes. I've never really paid that much attention to what was said about me. I suppose people have the right to their opinions don't they?"
  • This features on the soundtrack of the 2016 movie Me Before You, which is based on the best-selling book by Jojo Moyes.
  • This was actually written while The 1975 was making their eponymous first album, but it didn't quite fit. It did, however, provide a foundation stone for the sophomore set. "I think we just made an album that provided context to that song," Healy told Billboard magazine. "I think that song is so poppy in its sensibilities, but like everything we do in The 1975 it's juxtaposed to a narrative that's a little more dark or introspective, and I think this album was the perfect vehicle for it."
  • The song could have been recorded by One Direction. "I went into the studio with them [One Direction] for a couple of hours to work on some stuff and, funnily enough, I ended up showing them 'The Sound' as a suggestion, but nothing came of it" Matt Healy recalled to Q magazine. "I was asked to do it, so I thought I'd see how it all works but it just didn't really work very well. It didn't resonate so I thought I'd stick to own thing."
  • It's not about reciprocation, it's just all about me
A sycophantic, prophetic, socratic junkie wannabe
There's so much skin to see
    A simple epicurean philosophy
And you say I'm such a cliché

Healy told NME: "I'm going on about 'epicurean philosophy.' I got it from an Alain de Botton book – it's this idea of just living life for the sake of pleasure."
