Songfacts®:

  • "Dount It" is about the conflict between a religious faith and desire to sin. The song was inspired by a book that guitarist Chris Alderton gave to vocalist Matt Thomson. Titled Hellfire, it's a biography of 1950s rock 'n' roller Jerry Lee Lewis centering on the battle between the singer's conservative religious upbringing and his appetite for excess.

    Wanna do it again
    If the devils desire
    I don't wanna be saved

Thomson told Kerrang: "Rock 'n' roll is bathed in sin, and I really enjoyed toying with that imagery."
  • The song is Track 5 on Future Dust, preceded by "The Mire," a 34-second interlude track. Asked by Billboard why they included the interlude, Thomson explained: "We'd done real quick songs, like 'Mother,' 'Fuzzy Tree' and '25.' We wanted to kind of set the scene for 'Doubt It,' which is kind of a bit of an epic."
