Songfacts®:

  • "Velvet Ditch" is a nickname for Mississippi, and this song pays tribute to the American state. It was inspired by a bike trip down south that Arcs frontman Dan Auerbach took. He recalled to Jam! Music: "It was a great trip. It was 10 of us all on our '30s and '40s Harleys all riding the old highways through Memphis, Clarksdale, and through the countryside and the cotton fields. It was kind of amazing. You're riding a motorcycle through scenes that look like they're straight out of O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
