Songfacts®:

  • "Take Care in Your Dreaming" finds The Avalanches' Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi collaborating with American rapper Denzel Curry, Melbourne's own Sampa the Great, and English rapper Tricky.
  • The Avalanches cut the vocal with Denzel Curry in 2019 in Sydney. The Florida MC was only going to be in Australia for a day, so Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi flew out to Sydney and spent the day in the studio with him. "We had that sample - 'take care in your dreaming and love when you can' - already, and we spoke with Denzel about unrealized dreams and journeys through life," Chater explained to Apple Music. "So that's what he wrote about. It's been quite harrowing for him at times, I understand. The song is a 'careful what you wish for' kind of thing."
  • Sampa the Great and Tricky laid down their vocals in 2020. The collaboration with Tricky happened after Robbie Chater DM-ed the Bristolian rapper on Instagram. He recalled to Q magazine: "Eventually our manager emailed us and said: 'Have you been working with Tricky?! I just got a message from his manager!' They freaked out because neither of them knew about it."
  • The Avalanches were teenagers learning how to sample when Tricky bought out Maxinquaye in 1995. The pair had that record on repeat and have remained fans ever since. They started chatting on Instagram when Tricky was in Berlin making his Fall To Pieces album.

"We did like six songs in two weeks and two of them have made this record," Chater recalled to NME. "It was a beautiful alignment where he just happened to be on fire."
  • The Avalanches first worked with Sampha The Great in 2017 when she was a guest vocalist during their concert at the Sydney Opera House. "We had a couple of hour's rehearsal and she popped in," Di Blasi recalled to NME. "She's pretty tiny but such a powerhouse with so much charisma. We were like, 'Man, we've got to do a track with her at some point.'"
