Songfacts®:

  • "Give me Back my Man" is the fourth track on the B-52s' second album, Wild Planet. The humorous song was long rumored to be a fanciful tale of a woman whose boyfriend was eaten by a shark. In her interview with Songfacts, B-52s vocalist Cindy Wilson offered another possibility: "Or he was flushed down the toilet by the Ty-D-Bol Man."
  • This is one of the few B-52s songs with only one lead singer: Cindy Wilson. (Usually at least two of their three lead vocalists - Wilson, Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson - would share the vocals). Writing the song was a group effort, with everyone in the band contributing along with their friend, Robert Waldrop.
  • The woman in this song is "walking out of Korvettes" with a package in her hand. Korvettes was a popular department store in the 1960s that met its demise in 1980, the year this song was released.

  • Wkb123 from UsaIt’s a euphemism filled song. Boyfriend left and she’s offering herself in an uninhibited state to get him back. Fish is lady bits, candy is oral and everything in my hand is well, lending a hand.
    No sharks, no one died.
  • John P from Los AngelesThe video for this song is absolute magic. And the B52s drummer looks just like Tom Brady!!
  • Moosehead from ScStill my favorite of theirs.
