Songfacts®:

  • The Bucketheads is producer Kenny "Dope" Gonzales, who is also one half of the house music production team Masters At Work with Little Louie Vega. Gonzales launched The Bucketheads as a stylistic diversion to blend house with disco, funk, hip-hop, freestyle and Latin street music. Released in 1995, "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall into My Mind)" was the project's breakthrough single, reaching the charts worldwide.
  • "The Bomb!" emerged at a time when house producers had begun to incorporate other music genres in their tunes. This fusion of disco-funk and house samples the brass and vocals from Chicago's 1979 track "Street Player."
  • Gonzales recorded "The Bomb" for Bucketheads' one and only album, All In The Mind. He laid the entire record down over a space of three days in his Brooklyn home studio using E-mu SP-1200 and Akai S950 samplers. All In The Mind spawned a second hit single, "Got Myself Together," which reached #12 on the UK singles chart.
  • Guy Ritchie and Alex De Rakoff directed the tongue-in-cheek music video, which features such '70s disco clichés as platform heels, neon lights and huge afro haircuts. Shot on a Super 8 film camera in London, it had a budget of approximately £1,000.

Guy Ritchie was a young whippersnapper at the time and the video was one of his first directorial projects. He filmed it three years before his 1998 movie debut, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.
  • "The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall into My Mind)" features on the soundtrack for the 2010 film The Switch.
  • Several artists have sampled "The Bomb." They include:

Georgia Jones (Featuring) Plux for her 1996 UK hit "Over & Over"

Girl Talk for his 2008 track "Here's The Thing"

Alok for his 2022 single "Deep Down" with Ella Eyre and Kenny Dope (featuring Never Dull).
