Songfacts®:

  • This rugged rocker finds The Cadillac Three celebrating a rowdy country lifestyle. According to the band, being a redneck "red, white, and blue collared guy" entails cold beer, Coppertone shoulders and smoking on the back porch swing.
  • The trio called on Chris Janson and Travis Tritt to help them paint the picture of "living that slow life in a real fast world." The two guest singers trade vocals with Cadillac Three frontman Jaren Johnston throughout the fast-paced song. Janson also contributes additional harmonica.
  • Jaren Johnston and drummer Neil Mason teamed up with Jeremy Stover to pen this rocker, while on tour with Travis Tritt and Charlie Daniels Band.

"He (Tritt) was on the bus when we were playing through some songs and with his big signature twang belted out the line," Johnston recalled. "I grew up listening to Travis, and he's a big reason I sing the way I do – that gritty twang thing. We knew he had to be on the song."
  • The band has been buddies with Chris Janson for years, and the "Good Vibes" singer immediately wanted to be a part of "Country Boy." He cut his vocal the next day.
  • Chris Janson's harmonica line was a surprise addition to the song. "He just sent it," The Cadillac Three's Kelby Ray told The Boot. "We didn't ask for it."
