Songfacts®:

  • This is the closing track of Everything Is Love, a joint album by Jay-Z and Beyoncé. The record finds the couple very much in love with each other following marital troubles documented on Bey's 2016 album, Lemonade and Hov's 4:44 record the following year.

You did some things to me
Boy, you do some things to me
But love is deeper than your pain and I believe you can change

On the Lemonade track "Sorry" Beyoncé reveals to the world that Jay-Z cheated on her with Becky With The Good Hair. Naturally, she was deeply hurt by her husband's infidelity and throughout the rest of the album she sings about wrestling with before forgiving her unfaithful marital partner.

During the title track of his 4:44 record, Jay apologizes to his wife for his womanizing and details its potential effect on his children.

This song finds the couple trading bars about just how rocky their marriage got. However, they also reveal themselves to be now totally reconciled and "happily in love."
  • Beyoncé has a jab at Kanye West at the end of the first verse, suggesting she has replaced the Yeezus artist on the throne next to Jay.

In a glass house still throwing stones
    Hova, Beysus, watch the thrones
    (Happy in love)

Jay and Kanye were once close and in 2011 they recorded a collaborative album Watch the Throne but their relationship has since deteriorated. Beyoncé asserts that she has indeed replaced Ye's position as his most indispensable collaborator.
  • TV On The Radio frontman Dave Sitek is listed as co-producer on the track along with Jay-Z and Beyoncé. This is his first collaboration with either of the Carters but he did contribute to the production of Beyonce's sister Solange's song "Don't Touch My Hair."
