Songfacts®:

  • Seeking inspiration during sessions at London's Britannia Row Studios, the Charlatans held a series of séances. Singer Tim Burgess told Mojo magazine March 2010: "We wanted to do something mystical before having a jam. The idea was to conjure up the spirits of Syd Barrett, Serge Gainsbourg, Brian Jones and Ian Curtis." However only the late Joy Division singer took their call and Curtis apparently spelt out "JOY FOR TIM" on the board. The result of this brush with the other side was The Charlatans channeling Curtis's spirit in a lengthy jam that led to this track.
