Songfacts®:

  • You Cross My Path was the first album frontman Tim Burgess had made since he quit drink and drugs for good. The songs on this set include every emotion he went through as he battled back from the brink. Burgess told the The Sun newspaper that this track was about the anger and revenge stage of overcoming his addictions.
  • This song was originally released as a free digital download by the band in 2007.
  • The album was given away free on the Radio XFM website in early 2008, when it racked up 80,000 downloads. This would have been enough to enter the UK charts at #2 if the band had released it conventionally.
  • Tim Burgess told the News of the World: "We've always tried to change our sound with each record. No-one wants to hear a band pumping out the same old tunes time after time. Yes, You Cross My Path is very New Order inspired. Why not? They're one of my favourite bands. If there was no New Order, there would be no Charlatans."
