Songfacts®:

  • The Chemical Brothers explained to Billboard that they'd had a 7-inch record that they had wanted to sample for years. With the help of recording engineer Hal Ritson they finally found "a way to flip it into something fresh.” They did this by recruiting theater actor Eshan Gopal (Motown: The Musical) to re-sing the vocal. Gopal's contribution enabled them "to change direction melodically to take us into the squelch and funk bog."
  • The song was used as the promotional track for the 2019 Formula 1 Season. The Chemical Brothers released a remix of "We've Got to Try" titled "WGTT15000BPM F1 NEEEUM Mix" to celebrate the beginning of the new F1 season. The song was sped up to 15,000 beats per minute to reflect the speeds Formula One cars are capable of reaching. As a result the new version is just 4 seconds long.
  • Directed by Ninian Doff, the music video chronicles a stray dog, Shadow, who is trained to drive an race car and later pilot a spaceship. Doff revealed in a behind the scenes video that Shadow was an "incredible rescue dog" who had in fact "flown an airplane in real life."
