Songfacts®:

  • The Cranberries had already written and demoed 11 songs prior to lead singer Dolores O'Riordan's death on January 15, 2018. The surviving bandmates set aside her vocals for several months following her passing and after getting support from the late vocalist's family, they completed the recording sessions for In The End in April and May 2018.
  • This rocker about domestic abuse was one of the first tracks O'Riordan and Cranberries guitarist Noel Hogan demoed for the In The End album. It was released as a streaming advance single on January 15, 2019, the first anniversary of O'Riordan's death.
  • Filming the video without O'Riordan left the band in a quandary. Their solution was to stay out of the clip and bring in an animator to tell the story. Daniel Britt's impressionistic visual depicts a note of hope amidst depressing circumstances as a clifftop house falls victim to coastal erosion.

"We thought animation was the way to go - it was either that or have actors in the video," Noel Hogan told Billboard regarding the clip. "But animation is something we'd never really done, so we thought it would be nice."
