Songfacts®:

  • Bury the Hatchet was the Irish rock band's first album for three years. The hiatus was caused by vocalist Dolores O'Riordan taking time to recover from a breakdown after which she gave birth to her first child, Taylor. The Cranberries singer told The Independent that she credits Taylor for giving her the motivation to return to the recording studio. Said O'Riordan: "My son helped me get better. He made me happy. I wrote 'Animal Instinct' about him. I found my happiness again so I started singing again."
