• This was the first UK Top 40 single for English indie rock band, The Cribs.
• Drummer Ross Jarman told Mojo magazine October 2009 that this swipe at hipster crowds was fueled by their experiences: "playing Brixton Windmill, full of kids who were only there because they thought it made them look cool."
• Just after this song was released, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr heard it on his car radio. He told Mojo that as the track played, "I felt I had a connection with Gary's voice, Ryan's guitar, the attitude. I could hear destiny." In 2008 he became a formal member of The Cribs.
• The song was improvised during the band's Brixton Windmill gig. Bassist Gary Jarman recalled to NME: "We did 'Third Outing,' which was the last song. We'd usually do a bit of improv afterwards. We just started singing 'Hey Scenesters!' to the crowd."
  He added; "We were the guys from out of town. We were literally shouting at the room and putting music to it."
• This was placed 42nd in a poll for the top 50 Indie anthems of all time, which was published in the NME in May 2007.
