Songfacts®:

  • The Dead Weather is one of the great side projects in rock, led by Alison Mosshart of The Kills and Jack White of quite an assortment of hats. In The Kills, Mosshart spends a lot of time crafting her lyrics, but The Dead Weather work differently, banging out songs in the studio quickly. "I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)" is typical of this off-the-cuff approach, as she fills the lyric with a series of images that we have to interpret for ourselves. As is often the case with her songs, her heartbeat is up and there's a sense of urgency. She feels love, but only every million miles.
  • Mosshart wrote this song with Dean Fertita, the band's guitarist. His main gig is with Queens Of The Stone Age.
  • In the music video, Mosshart is in a deserted city where she's constantly pushing against the wind. It's mostly in black and white, per the opening line, "Nothing is a color." It was directed by the team of Cooper Roberts and Ian Schwartz (Ian & Cooper) and earned a Grammy Nomination for Best Music Video, losing to "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. It's the only Grammy nom The Dead Weather ever received.
  • Speaking about the filming process for the song's music video to Annie Mac on the August 17, 2015 episode of her BBC Radio 1 show, vocalist Alison Mosshart said, "It was the most fun ever, it really was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Beyond the wires was a crane that was, like, five stories above my head, pulling me through the air. It was like I was flying in movies. It was so awesome, I loved it."
  • The song is part of the third Dead Weather album, Dodge & Burn. Unlike their first two, they didn't tour for this one, but they did make one appearance, performing the song on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on September 14, 2015. It was their first performance in nearly five years and possibly their last.
