40 Boys In 40 Nights

Album: The Donnas Turn 21 (2001)

Songfacts®:

  • Turning the tables on Rock misogyny, in this song The Donnas sing about their sexual conquests on the road. The Go-Go's were perhaps the first all-girl group to indulge in the spoils of male attention on tour, but they maintained a reasonably wholesome image and their songs were never blatantly about sex (check out our interview with Jane Wiedlin). The Donnas here are using their outrageous behavior to market themselves.
  • The title is a play on the 40 days and 40 nights of lent, which is celebrated in the Christian faith leading up to Easter. During lent, Christians often give up certain indulgences, which is the opposite of what The Donnas are singing about.
