Songfacts®:

  • This song was the first single release from the Doobie Brothers' self-titled debut studio album in 1971. Only a handful of West Coast hippies bought it and the track failed to chart, as did the album itself. The single was re-released in 1974 after the group had become a highly successful touring and recording act, peaking at #58 on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • "Nobody" was newly re-recorded for World Gone Crazy in 2010, the Doobie Brothers' 13th studio album and their first release since 2000's Sibling Rivalry. Doobie vocalist Tom Johnston, who wrote the song, explained to AOL Radio why they chose to re-record it 40 years later. "Well, Ted Templeman [who produced the Doobie Brothers, Van Morrison and Van Halen] asked us to do it over because it never got recorded properly. This time it was! And ...[as you can hear]... received a different treatment. It's a reminder to people that the original band is still alive and well!"
