Slow It Down

Album: IV Play (2013)
Play Video

Songfacts®:

  • This track about foreplay uses a slower rhythm than most of the high-energy club records that can be found on the Hot 100 in 2013. The song also has a second meaning. "Enough with them mother---in' dance songs. You gotta slow it down," The-Dream sings. "Me saying 'Slow It Down,' yes, it's too many people doing what they shouldn't be doing, and then they get trapped," he explained to Sway Calloway on RapFix Live regarding the pressure on R&B singers to put out faster-paced records.
  • The-Dream told Sway Calloway that he was so pleased with this tune, he changed the Love IV album title to IV Play. "It's that good of a song it made me change it. It was really that good."
  • The song features Brooklyn MC Fabolous. The pair previously collaborated on Fabolous' hit single, "Throw It In the Bag."
  • The video, which is set in a 1950s-themed party, addresses contemporary racial segregation when a woman decides to cross over from the preppy white guests' sophisticated soiree, to Dream's side where guests are slow dancing. A preppy champagne drinker takes issue with Dream taking over the bash and challenges him to a drag race.
