Songfacts®:

  • Running to 2 minutes 23 seconds, and 2 minutes 25 seconds on the reissued album, "Seaweed" is the third track on Enter: The Conquering Chicken. With lyrics by vocalist Mia Zapata, this does not sound much like a tribute song, but it is based on a real life cameo.

Zapata and two friends were swimming when they got tangled up in some seaweed. One of these friends was Stefanie Sargent, lead guitarist of the all-girl punk band 7 Year Bitch. Sargent died in July 1992 aged 24, from a heroin overdose. Sadly and shockingly, Zapata did not live to see the album released because less than a year later she too was dead, murdered by a stranger as she walked home through the streets of Seattle in the small hours. >>
