Songfacts®:

  • "Circles" is the first single from Enter to Exit, the second album from the Brooklyn funk-rock band The Highway. Lead singer/bassist Daniel Tortoledo told us the story behind this song: "'Circles' is a story of man who steps into a dream reminiscent of the past and depicting his present life in a city where the kings no longer hold their thrones and those things we once considered sacred are now nothing but childish jokes. His innocence is gone and so is his thought about the so-called 'free love.' What remains is the outcome of the endless roads he paved for years for us to witness the sense of brotherhood, he hopes for mother earth to develop in the years to come.
  • Here are the lyrics, provided courtesy of the band:

Going round in circles I got no point of view
Got no real direction when I put my trust in you
The king became the joker of an up an coming town
the prostitute's a lover of a priest who walks around

All the pages have been read, all the words were clearly said
there's nothing left to be discussed, about a victory or a loss
The wind is cold and so am I when the gun is on my side

Take all but don't take what belongs to me
Hang me but leave with some air to breath
We are fooled into thinking love's for free
I know that everyone must reach the end

The wind has blown a boy has grown and
now with time the land has shrunk
all my friends have paid their fare
with the moments we have shared

Images of haunted lands are crossing through my fearless mind

Take all but don't take what belongs to me
Hang me but leave with some air to breath
We are fooled into thinking love's for free
I know that everyone must reach the end
