Songfacts®:

  • This song finds Jayhawks frontman Mark Olsen paying tribute to his girlfriend at the time, folk-rock singer/songwriter Victoria Williams (they later married). Olsen later left The Jayhawks to form The Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers with Williams, but they divorced in 2006, which also led to the dissolution of their musical partnership.
  • When we spoke with Jayhawks guitarist and co-songwriter Gary Louris in a 2012 interview, he said that he had "very little to do with that song, other than playing the riff." He added: "That's truly a Mark Olson song. If you're talking about Olson/Louris in a kind of Lennon/McCartney thing, then that's his 'Strawberry Fields.' I had very little to do with that other than playing the guitar."
