Songfacts®:

  • Raised in rural Australia, Charlton Howard is a rapper who performs under the name The Kid Laroi. He first garnered a following after he supported Juice WRLD on his 2018 and 2019 Australia tours. In between the tours, the teenage Australian became Juice's labelmate after signing to Lil Bibby's Grade A Productions aged 15 in March 2019. Early in the following year Howard achieved a commercial breakthrough when two songs, "Diva" and "Addison Rae," reached the Top 20 of New Zealand's singles chart.
  • This song is a collaboration with Kid Laroi's late friend and mentor Juice WRLD. Both artists talk about their relationship struggles while Juice also references his drug addiction issues.
  • The music video includes a clip of Juice WRLD revealing that he recorded his verse as a 16th birthday gift for Kid Larol after he slept through the teenager's celebration dinner. "That's a $200,000 gift lil bro," Juice WRLD says, referencing his asking rate for feature verses.
  • Laroi recorded the hook well before his 16th birthday but wasn't happy with it and discarded his bars. When Juice told him he would gift him a verse, the Australian teen accidentally sent the hook to Juice's people. Laroi recalled to Apple Music: "I Airdropped his engineer a few songs. I didn't even really mean to airdrop ['Go!'] because I had recorded it so long ago but he was like, 'This is the one, this is the one! Come on, load it up, let's get it!'"
