Songfacts®:

  • Fans of The Lightning Seeds know to expect clouds in a song called "Sunshine," but this one stays uncharacteristically bright and cheery throughout. Lead Seed Ian Broudie typically tempers their upbeat songs with a bit of pragmatism, noting, for example, how in their big hit "Pure" the good times won't last forever. But in this song, it's all good:

    Sometimes the sun shines
In my heart and every little thing feels fine
  • Released in June 2022, "Sunshine" was the lead single from the long-awaited Lightning Seeds album See You In The Stars, their first since Four Winds in 2009. Most of the album isn't nearly as sunny, lyrically at least. The title track is about the death of a close friend. "Sunshine" made sense as the first single because it's a fell-good summer tune.
