Songfacts®:

  • The Lumineers' folky self-titled debut album found them being compared to Mumford & Sons but this song finds them adopting a totally different sound. Singer-guitarist Wesley Schultz told The Sun: "'In The Light' is our blue-eyed soul song. It has this piano riff that comes in out of nowhere and reminds me of life coming into the room. It also has a Motown feel and a groove to it that the other songs don't really have. We couldn't have put it on the first record but we felt good and confident about it for this record. It sets a new tone."
