Songfacts®:

  • This is the third track on The Mohrs' debut album, Kings of Nowhere. The band's frontwoman, Jackie Mohr, revealed what inspired the song in her Songfacts interview. "When I think about 'Perfectly Sane' now, I think that it's about me more than anybody else," she said.

Mohr explained how a relationship that she was in at the time started to deplete her and made her feel less and less like herself: "Especially that chorus, when I reflect on me at that time and how unstable I was in all of it. Like, 'What would a perfectly sane person do? Wouldn't be caught dead with you' - I think I'm referring to myself, to be quite honest, which was an interesting thing for me to realize after reflecting."
  • Jackie Mohr wrote this with the renowned songwriter/producer, Hawksley Workman, and The Mohrs' guitarist, Marc Girardin. It was one of the last songs they wrote for the album. "The chorus was actually a Hawksley Workman moment through and through," explained Mohr. "There was this beautiful sound to this chorus, but we were stumped on it for awhile. Hawksley all of a sudden came out with [singing], 'What would a perfectly sane person do?' It was just magic."
