• This clearly satirical Roy Wood composition was scheduled for release in November 1967 as the B-side of "Cherry Blossom Clinic," but the single was cancelled. The September release of "Flowers In The Rain" had led to legal action by Harold Wilson, then Prime Minister of England. It was not the song but the novel method of its promotion that irked Wilson. After that minor scandal, a song about a lunatic asylum would probably have been pushing their luck, but both "Cherry Blossom Clinic" and its B-side were released in 1998.
  
  By this time, the Summer Of Love - alluded to in the first verse - was long over, and most young people listening to "Vote For Me" would have missed the cultural reference, but most people of all ages were just as cynical about politics thirty years on, so the rest of the song would probably not have been lost. >>
