Songfacts®:

  • The National wrote and recorded most of Alligator in Brooklyn's historic Ditmas Park neighborhood, where Beverly Road passes through. "It's a beautiful neighborhood that feels more like Savannah, Georgia, than Brooklyn," National frontman Matt Berninger told Neumu. "The houses are all free-standing with nice yards and wrap-around porches. I was sitting outside one night watching a bunch of kids running up and down Beverly setting off car alarms. The song is theirs."
  • The band performed this at their longtime producer Peter Katis' wedding. A photo of them performing was used as the album art for their next release, Boxer. >>>
