Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from the New York City indie pop band The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's second album, Belong. Vocalist Kip Berman told Spinner the song gets to the, er, heart of what the band is all about: "It's one of those very traditional feelings that roots pop songs, which is getting dumped and then reflecting on it and feeling bad about it," he explained. "But the song ultimately evolves in that you realize that there's no point in feeling bad about it because it wasn't that great in the first place. It's almost like it indulges in a kind of bathos, in that it's very maudlin up until the bridge, when it sort of lyrically shifts around."
