Songfacts®:

  • This song is a tribute to the Irish writer and cerebral palsy sufferer Christy Brown, whose 1954 autobiography My Left Foot was made into an award-winning film starring Daniel Day Lewis the year that Peace and Love was released. The song title is taken from Brown's first novel, Down all The Days a stream of consciousness narrative of Ireland and its society, which was published in 1970.
  • The Peace And Love album was the last of two by The Pogues produced by Steve Lillywhite, who had a tough task keeping the band functioning in the studio amid their infighting; the album title was ironic.
