  • This tongue-in-cheek song finds the girls complaining about how finding a proper gentleman to date is difficult in modern society. The tune was written by American songwriter Priscella Renea, whose other credits include Selena Gomez & The Scene's, "Who Says" and Rihanna's "Watch 'n' Learn."
  • The song is a contemporary take on a '90s urban pop sound, with a spoken word parts. Explaining the song, Frankie said, "'Gentleman' is a totally different sound for us but it feels like a natural progression from 'What About Us.'"

Mollie added, "Who knew you would hear The Saturdays rapping? We had so much fun in the studio messing around on this track!"
  • The selection of possible candidates that the girls namecheck range from musicians such as Kanye West, The Jonas Brothers and Drake to Barack Obama.
  • The accompanying video sees the girls not only as glamorous housewives but also dressed as their male love interests in masculine suits and hats. Said Rochelle: "In the video, you definitely get to see us in a completely new light dressed as men! It was definitely our most fun video shoot yet."
  • The Saturdays performed the song live for the first time at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend at Derry~Londonderry on May 25, 2013. The group took to the stage without Rochelle Humes, who'd recently gave birth to her first child with JLS star Marvin Humes.
