  • Beatle Bob from St. LouisThe Silkie were scheduled to play on Dick Clark's Where The Action Is on May 30th 1966, NOT American Bandstand. May 30th 1966 was a Monday, an American Bandstand at that time aired on Saturday
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn May 30, 1966, the Silkie were scheduled to appear on the Dick Clark ABC-TV network Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand', but because they didn't have the necessary visas and work permits they were unable to perform......
    Seven months earlier on October 10th, 1965* their only charted record, "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away", entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #81; six weeks later it would peak at #10 {for 1 week} and it also spent 10 weeks on the Top 100...
    The record was produced by John Lennon, Paul McCartney played guitar and George Harrison accompanied on tambourine....
    * The day it entered the Hot Top 100, the Beatles' "Yesterday" was in it's second of two weeks at #1 on the chart.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyIt has already been stated that this was Silkie's only Top 40 hit; more than that, it was their only Top 100 hit. {But it did manage to make the Top 10; it peaked at No. 10 and strangely enough it stayed in the Top 100 for ten weeks}
  • Robert from Ruckersville, VaSince The Beatles manager was also The Silkie's manager (Brian Epstein), I am sure it was a very calculated plan to release both versions to target various segments of the listening population. Since it went Top 10 on borth sides of the pond, I'd say he played it perfectly.
  • Meredith from Wauwatosa, WiHmmm... kinda fishy that this song came out THE SAME YEAR AS THE BEATLES' VERSION. I'm not sure it was such a good idea for a band covering a song to release it the same year as the band that originally sang and wrote it.
