Songfacts®:

  • Allan Smethurst wrote this song and recorded it accompanying himself on the acoustic guitar, but it includes some sound effects, which appear to be jets passing by, and a little bit of bird twitter. Unfortunately, the studio where he recorded his dialect songs appears to have been on the flight path of Wattisham Aerodrome; in the song he laments that every time the jets fly over he has to start recording again.
  • The sheet music for "Sound Barrier" was published by Dick James Music at 3 shillings, and copyright 1967. >>>
