Songfacts®:

  • "In Love With A Camera" had a long incarnation involving about five different productions over the course of a year before the band was happy with it.

It started as a joke song called "Love & Hysteria" recorded on the island of Jersey just after The Struts had laid down "Primadonna Like Me," but they kept the demo because they felt it had some potential.

Luke Spiller explained to Louder Sound the track then "sort of laid low for about four of five months" while they attempted to make it "a little more single-y."

Spiller was taking a fortnight's break in Topanga just outside LA, during their recording session in America. All his bandmates were back home in England when their producer approached him with an idea. So the Struts vocalist found himself in a studio during holiday. "But it was worth it," he said. "This concept of being in love with the camera sprung out of nowhere, and as soon as I sang it in I was like, 'ooh, OK, this feels super unique, it feels very special, it's f--king risky as hell.' Because it's super pop, there's no doubt about it."

Ironically, after such a long incarnation, the final version came together in just a couple of hours.
