Songfacts®:

  • The second single off of The Subways debut album Young for Eternity, "Rock 'n' Roll Queen" was the group's breakthrough song and far and away their biggest single. It is not to be confused with the similarly titled Mott the Hoople song.
  • This was widely used in media, including on video game soundtracks (EA Sports Rugby 06, FIFA Street 2, Saints Row 2, Pure, Forza Horizon), advertising campaigns (Rimmel), TV (The O.C.) and films (Live Free Or Die Hard and RocknRolla - the latter of which features the band in a cameo in the film performing the song live in a bar).

  • Carlos Pessoa from Bertioga, BrasilI have some doubts about the interpretation of this song:

For what I see, is about a guy who really likes this girl, and maybe her style (so cool, so rock n roll) and he wanna propose her to be his girlfriend or be his wife (be my rock n roll queen)

But what is bugging me is when the lyrics say: My heart is blue for you.
The blue can be associated with sadness, right? So if he likes her why his heart is blue?
