  • This groundbreaking hit can be considered the first Hip-Hop Soul love song. The System is the interracial duo of vocalist Mic Murphy and keyboard player David Frank. Frank went on to co-write "Genie in a Bottle" for Christina Aguillera. >>>

  • David Frank explained in The Billboard Book of #1 R&B Hits: "I worked on a musical track for two or three days, and I remember thinking, 'Why am I spending so much time on this? I don't know whether it's going to be good, it's a little bit too jazzy, and I'm probably making a mistake. But I couldn't stop myself. I kept working on this track. I had the verse and the chorus of the song. I had all the parts you hear on the record. [Mic Murphy] came over and said the bridge should be the chorus, have it go 'round twice. So I did and gave it to him and he came back with the title and the idea for the melody. We added a bridge a couple of weeks later and added a counter-melody."
  • Artists to cover this include Backstreet Boys, Silk and Mcloone. Victoria Beckham's 2004 #3 UK hit "This Groove" is based on this track.
