  • The Ting Tings' fifth album, Home, arrived in June 2025 after a seven-year gap and marked a dramatic shift in sound. Gone was the high-energy indie pop of early hits like "That's Not My Name." In its place: a warm, sun-drenched Americana inspired by the music they'd grown up loving. On "Danced on the Wire," Katie White and Jules De Martino drew directly from the influence of Glen Campbell.

"We were listening to 'Wichita Lineman' over and over," Jules told Songfacts. "I used to love it as a kid."

That influence runs through "Danced On The Wire," a country song about the unspoken moments in a long-term relationship when routine feels safe, but also starts to feel like it's holding you back.
  • While Katie usually handles lead vocals, this track finds Jules stepping up to the microphone, a rare move for the drummer and producer.

"Coming forward on vocals I wanted to use my voice in my range and not in Katie's range, more deep and country-like," he explained to Songfacts. "During all our tours and albums I often had to stretch into a higher range for backing vocals but on this album songs I sing are in my range."

Katie praised the shift: "It gave him confidence. Coming off the drums for him was a big deal."
  • "Danced on the Wire" was recorded in the band's home studio in Ibiza, where they relocated during the COVID pandemic and became first-time parents. That new pace of life - and perspective - helped shape the reflective mood of Home.

"We had a child four years ago, which changed almost everything," Katie told Songfacts. "We decided we wanted to be better at our instruments, that we wanted to live in a calmer environment and be true to the music we loved to listen to."
