Songfacts®:

  • The Used bassist Jeph Howard says "Shine" was influenced his band's love for Hip-Hop and Latin-based music. Howard says that while the band members love hard rock and metal music, they also enjoy some pop music and solid hits. When we spoke with thier bass player Jeph Howard in 2012, he explained: "That one kind of came out special like that. I mean, me and Bert are, and have always been, really influenced by hip-hop music. I think Quinn actually is hip-hop oriented, too. So we always have that kind of feeling, that kind of back beat, and that kind of love for just solid hits and stuff like that."
  • One week before The Used's 2012 album Vulnerable came out, Alternative Press streamed "Shine" on its website as a preview to the new album.
