Songfacts®:

  • Winery Dogs are the trio of Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater), Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big) and Richie Kotzen (ex-poison). Portnoy hadn't written any lyrics since leaving Dream Theater, but for this track he had something that he really wanted to say. "Everything else will come and go but family is forever and that's the message of that song," said the drummer in a track-by-track video. "And it's really a thank you to my wife for sticking by me and helping me to stay strong through the hard times and the changes I've been through the last couple of years."
  • This is the only track on the debut Winery Dogs album with a lyric by Mike Portnoy; the rest are written by Richie Kotzen, who sings lead in the group. The song is more mellow than most of the band's material.
