Songfacts®:

  • The opening track of This Modern Glitch was also the first song written to make the final track listing. Lead singer and guitarist Matthew Murphy told Spinner: "It was originally much longer but got chopped down in pre-production with Rich Costey. The song is about the close connection and similarities between hate and love." The tune was released as the fifth single from the album on August 14, 2011.
  • The Mark Staubach directed video links with the song title by getting the band to play the song in a dilapidated hospital emergency room.
