Songfacts®:

  • The Zombies broke up in December 1967, just a few months before the release of their album Odessey and Oracle in April 1968. The album was a critical and commercial success, but it came too late to save the band. Keyboardist Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone rebooted the group in the early 2000s, and they have been touring and recording ever since.

The Zombies' 2023 album, Different Game, is their seventh studio LP and their fourth in their new incarnation. The album has 10 tracks, all of which were written by Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone.
  • "Rediscover," the third track on Different Game, finds Blunstone baring his soul. He croons about a life adrift, seeking meaning. Then, like a lightning strike, he finds his soulmate who changes him and gives purpose to his life.
  • During the opening eight bars, there's almost nothing going on except harmonies. The a cappella vocals at the beginning were inspired by The Zombies' 2019 co-headlining tour with Brian Wilson and Al Jardine of The Beach Boys.

"Right from the Zombies' beginning in 1961, we were a keyboard-based band that featured harmonies, and this track follows that description," Bluntstone told Uncut magazine. "It was Rod's idea to give it this wonderful, a cappella introduction. It may have been influenced by touring the States with Brian Wilson's band. Before they went on, they would do an a cappella version of 'In My Room,' which was absolutely stunning. I listened to it every night."
